Sweet Nuts

Орешки [Oreshki] Sweet Nuts
This little buttery and nutty dessert is a favorite for weddings, holidays, and birthdays.

3 Cups flour
1 Cup + 2 tbsp butter, softened
1/2 Cup sugar
2 Eggs
1/8 Tsp baking soda

2 Cans of sweetened condensed milk
1/2 Cup butter, softened
1 Cup walnuts, finely chopped

You will need an орешница [oreshnitsa] {nuts mold} to make these.

Also, a gas stove will work best.

1. The day before you want to serve the sweet nuts, boil the unopened cans of the sweetened condensed milk in a pot of water for 2-3 hours, making sure to add water as it evaporates to keep the cans fully submerged. Do not open the cans!! Let cool.

2. The day of. Make the shells: Mix thoroughly the first 5 ingredients. Preheat the mold on medium heat. Make small balls and place into the cavities of the mold, close the mold and fry the shells on both sides for a few minutes. The shells should slip out easy, but if they don't, carefully remove them with a fork and let cool. Repeat until you have no more dough left. Let the shells cool completely. Clean the edges of the shells.

3. Make the filling: Open the cans only when they have cooled completely. Mix the cooked condensed milk, butter, walnuts. Spoon enough filling to fill each half of a shell (do not overfill) and press together.

4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 12 hours.

When my mom went to visit Moldova 10 years ago,
she bought a couple nuts molds and and gave me one.
But you might be able to find them eBay or Amazon?
