Bleached Chambray Shirt

I had two dark chambray shirts in almost identical cut and color. Since I don't need two identical shirts, I was going to get rid of one. Until I saw a few outfits with a lighter chambray shirt and loved the look.

So I decided to bleach one of them.

I didn't take any pictures of the process, but it's simple enough.

  1. In my bathroom sink, I mixed together 3 parts water and 1 part bleach.
  2. Soaked the shirt in the bleach solution. Making sure it stayed submerged.
  3. Moved the shirt around every 5-10 minutes. I would lift the shirt, spread it out, submerge, repeat a few times. (Slowly!! No splash accidents needed.)
  4. At some point I didn't think it was whitening enough so I took the shirt out, mixed in more bleach, then put the shirt back in.
  5. I kept mixing the shirt every 5-10 minutes, as described above, for about 1-1.5 hours. I didn't really time it, I just waited until I got the desired result.
  6. Once it got to the lightness I wanted, I rinsed, handwashed, and hung it to dry

Here I am wearing it to the park with the chickadees.
I think I may actually like this better than the remaining dark one ❤

It did have a slight bleach smell when I wore it, but not so strong that I couldn't wear it. When we were at the park I didn't notice the smell at all. I hope it washes out completely though, I don't like the smell of bleach.

Let me know if you try this!!

And check out all the ways you can wear it!
