Delicious Home Made Sour Cream

My mom has been making her own sour cream for a few years now and it is soooo good!
I asked her to show me how she makes it and here is the process :)

You just need 2 ingredients... heavy whipping cream and Greek yogurt. That is it!

We buy this heavy whipping cream at Costco and have used only Fage Greek yogurt.
I do not know if the results will be the same if you use other products.

Ingredients:

1/2 gallon heavy whipping cream
6 oz of Greek yogurt, room temperature

Instruments you will need:

Large pot {to fit 1/2 gallon cream}
Small mixing bowl
Fine sieve
Mixing spoon
Glass jars with lids
1-2 heavy blankets
Warm, out of the way, area

Directions:

1. On medium heat, heat the cream to warm it up.. do not over heat and do not let it boil!! It needs to be warmer than room temperature, but not too hot to the touch.

2. Take off the heat.

3. In a small bowl, combine the yogurt and about 1 cup of the warm cream. Mix thoroughly.

4. Pour the mixture through a fine sieve as you pour it into the rest of the cream. Push through any clumps that did not pour through. Mix everything thoroughly.

5. Warm the glass jars in warm water, and then pour the cream into the jars. Close tightly with lids.

6. Find a warm place where you will keep the jars for about 18-36 hours, depending on how warm it is. Lay the blankets(s) flat in your chosen area and stand the jars in the middle. Wrap the jars tightly with the blanket(s).

7. Allow to sit, undisturbed, until the cream has soured. How long it will take to sour depends on how warm the area is. The warmer the area, the faster it will sour. The colder it is, the longer it will take.

8. When the cream has soured {it should still be warm and lightly runny}, remove from the blankets and refrigerate. When it has cooled, it will become very thick.

ENJOY!
